In January 2009, the Rake Races undergo a record twelve-way split, with each of the three tiers gaining a race per week, as opposed to just one race per tier per month.

The tiers are divided into Blue, Bronze/Silver and Gold/Platinum. Players new to the poker room fall under the banner of the Blue tier, and are automatically registered for this set of races once they register. The Blue tier pays out a USD 12,500 prize pool per week, for a total of USD 50,000 during the month. This prize pool is distributed across 200 places, and players can get into the swing of it easily enough, with the primary requirement for climbing up the leaderboard being as simple as playing as many raked hands as possible.

On the Bronze/Silver tier, the prize pool is similar to the Blue tier: USD 12,500 paid out per week, for a total prize amount of USD 50,000 over the course of the month. The difference between the Blue and the Bronze/Silver tiers is the amount of paid places - 100 - and the manner of climbing up the leaderboard. With this tier, Poker Points need to be earned. 2.5 Points are earned for every USD 1.00 paid in Multi-Table and Sit 'n Go tournaments.

The final tier is the Gold/Platinum one, which pays down to 50 places but conversely pays out a USD 25,000 prize pool per week, for a grand total of USD 100,000 over the month. The manner of leaderboard-ascension is the same as the Bronze/Silver tier: every USD 1.00 paid in Multi-Table or Sit 'n Go tournaments earns 2.5 Points.
