Clinton on the most significant foreign trip to Pakistan since taking office - Holbrooke

Washington (Dawn.com): The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s visit to Pakistan, when Pakistan is at war with militants, is the most significant and important foreign visit said Richard Holbrooke, during an informal meeting with the Pakistani American community. He said that the US Secretary of State plans to meet the political leaders, the civil society members and the opposition. He said, ‘She is bringing a message of friendship and support to a country under tremendous pressure. She is going to discuss the IDPs (internally displaced persons) issue. She is going to focus on the real needs of the Pakistani people,’

Education minister of Balochistan killed

Quetta (Dawn.com): Balochistan Education Minister and the member of Pakistan People’s Party Shafiq Ahmed Khan was gunned down by the Balochistan Liberation United Front, who claimed the responsibility after assassinating the education minister outside his residence. The education minister had just returned home after attending a function at the local hotel. The gunman riddled his body with bullets as soon as he come out of the car outside his home.

His relative Hidayatullah Jaffa, who was accompanying him told the police, ‘I saw a man who fired on the education minister.’

Turkish and Pakistani Prime Ministers revolve to boost trade any bilateral cooperation

Islamabad (Dawn.com): The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is on the two day visit to Pakistan, met the Pakistani Prime Minister and discussed issues of interest of both the countries. They resolved to increase the trade between the two countries to the tune of $2 billion with couple of years. The Turkish Prime Minister vowed to increase relationship with Pakistan in trade, investment, agriculture, industry, culture, education and defense and to bolster people-to-people contact.

Illegal Uzbek’s detained near Islamabad

Islamabad (Dawn.com): 35 illegal immigrants, 20 Afghans and 15 Uzbeks including a women were arrested while traveling from Islamabad to Quetta. 160 such illegal immigrants have been arrested in the past few days by the security forces in Pakistan.

Decline of 7% registered at Karachi Stock Exchange in the past trading week

Karachi (Business Recorder): A decline of 7% or 687.27 points was registered at the Karachi Stock Exchange during the week ending on October 24, 2009. The foreign and local investors reacted to the law and order situation in the country and offloaded their holding that brought the KSE-100 index down from 9,838.12 to 9,150.85 points.
