Police Blotter: Woman Uses Taxi As Getaway Car After Swiping Jumbo Buck Lottery Ticket; Couple Argues Over Health Effect Of Cooking With Plastic Ladle

At Kangaroo Express on Jenkins Road a clerk said a white female with dark hair entered the business and reached around the side of the lottery ticket display case. She grabbed a $20 jumbo buck from the roll of lottery tickets. She then tore off a ticket and exited the business without paying. She was last seen getting into the driver's side of Millennium Cab #346 and exiting the parking lot. An officer attempted to locate the vehicle and contacted the cab company, but was unable to find out who was driving the taxi.

A white 2007 Chrysler Sebring was stolen from the Cromwell Hills Apartments when a man left it running and unlocked. The vehicle was then wrecked on I-24 W near exit 181. The vehicle was recovered prior to being reported stolen.

A manager of a storage place on 8th Avenue said someone used a hammer to pry the lock box off of the entry door to the business. The lock box was bolted to the exterior door and the door was damaged. The lock box contained invoices with customer credit card information, keys to four of the company trucks and $240 cash.

A woman reported at the Walmart on Shallowford Road that a white male (40's, 6'4", hefty, wearing a black leather jacket and glasses) approached both her daughters in the parking lot asking them if they needed help with their groceries. Although the man never did anything out of the ordinary, it was still bizarre, the woman said. Police contacted management, and asked them to be on the lookout for the man.

A man reported getting into an argument with his wife while watching a television show, but he said it never turned physical. The woman said they argued because she was cooking with a plastic ladle that he believed could contain toxic contaminants. The woman said she became frightened when he became verbally aggressive. She said the argument did not get physical and he had calmed down. Police did notice redness to her arms and neck. When asked about the redness, she said she had severe skin allergies and was currently taking medication for the condition. She showed the officer the medication. The man said he would leave the residence for a while to let things cool down.

At Aldi's on Highway 153, an employee said a black female in her 50's came in and gathered six packs of ribs and four packs of steaks, then ran out of the store without paying for them. The value was around $60. The woman was last seen getting into a blue car and speeding off north onto Highwa 153.

A resident of 12th Avenue said at an unknown time within the past month, someone stole the 3-ton package heat/air unit from a Tennessee Housing owned house at that location. It will cost at least $5,000 to replace the unit.

A suspicious person was reported at 839 Clark St. Police found Denzel Washington (not the famous actor) sitting in a car . Police removed him from the car and asked him what he was doing. He said he was living out of his car and was trying to sleep. Police informed him that he was parked in a private lot and he needed to find another area to park in.

Someone egged a residence on Chamberlain Avenue. Police observed the front door of the house covered in egg. Several egg shells were found at the base of the door. Police spoke with the home owner and informed her that the loud noise she heard was from someone throwing eggs at her house. Police searched the surrounding area as well as the blocks immediately surrounding the address and did not locate a suspect.

A business on Perimeter Drive reported the theft of a company trailer. A manager had video that showed a red pickup truck coming onto the property of The Great Backyard around 4:15 in the morning and connecting the trailer to the truck, then quickly driving away. The video shows four men getting out of the truck and connecting the trailer. The manager was able to provide police with a VIN for the trailer.

At the AT&T store on Gunbarrel Road, police spoke with an employee who said a male and female came in the store to get a phone activated. They sat at a table. The male selected two phone cases. He removed the cases from the boxes. He then concealed them. He gave the box to the female and she placed it back on the shelf. They exited the store with the stolen merchandise. When police arrived the male and female were sitting in a Chevrolet truck. The male was identified as Charles Flerl. The female was identified as Sonya Barrett. They were both detained while police watched video. Police observed them stealing the phone cases on video. Flerl denied taking anything. Ms. Barrett got the phone cases out of the vehicle and gave them to police. The manager said he did not want to prosecute. He just wanted the merchandise back. The cases were returned to him. Both Flerl and Ms. Barrett were told they were trespassed from the property.

A manager at Family Dollar on S. Willow Street said a female had stolen a number of items from the store. The female walked straight out the door with the items in her hand and under her arms. She got into a gold sedan with a tag applied for on it and was last seen in the area of McCallie Avenue. The manager estimated the value of the items taken to be $250. The suspect is a black female in her 30s, medium build, around 5'8" with black hair wearing a white T-shirt, jean skirt and white sneakers. The area was searched, but the vehicle was unable to be located at this time.

A resident of Snow Hill Road said he purchased a watch off of the Facebook Marketplace and met the seller on the parking lot of Publix in Ooltewah. He said he looked at the watch, agreed on the deal ($275) and handed the money to the seller. He said the man suddenly grabbed the watch off of the vehicle, jumped in a white sedan and fled the scene. The vehicle was driven by a black male. The man said he could identify the driver from his Facebook picture.
