The Supreme Court of El Salvador approved the extradition request of ex-President Mauricio Funes, who lives with his family in Nicaragua, Reuters reported

According to the source, he is wanted by Salvadoran prosecutors for a number of corruption-related crimes.

The extradition request will be sent to Nicaragua’s representatives in El Salvador later.

Nicaragua granted asylum to Funes and his family in 2016. Funes, who governed El Salvador from 2009 and 2014, is accused of embezzlement and money laundering involving $351 million. The court said in a statement that 15 magistrates unanimously approved the extradition request.
