A Boeing 737-200 cargo jet with two people aboard ditched off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii, early Friday after the pilots reported engine trouble, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The pilots of Transair Flight 810 were rescued after they ditched the plane, the FAA told The Post.
The plane took off at 1:33 a.m. local time and the last signal was received 12 minutes later, according to flight-tacking site Flightradar24.
The flight departed from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu and was heading to Kahului on Maui, according to the site.
“The pilots had reported engine trouble and were attempting to return to Honolulu when they were forced to land the aircraft in the water,” the FAA said in an email.
“According to preliminary information, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued both crew members. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate,” the agency added.
The Coast Guard airlifted one pilot to the Queen’s Medical Center, while a boat brought the other pilot to shore. The pilot was then transported to the hospital in serious condition with multiple lacerations, Hawaii News Now reported, citing the state Department of Transportation.
The plane — which FAA records show was built in 1975 — was not a 737 Max, Boeing’s newest model, which was grounded after two crashes in 2018 and 2019.
The flight was operated for Transair by Rhoades Aviation, according to Flightradar24. Transair’s website says the Hawaii company has been in operation since 1982.
“The combined Transair and Transair Express all-cargo fleet of five Boeing 737 and five Bombardier SD3-60-300 aircraft fly daily to all major Hawaiian island destinations of Kauai, Maui, Kona and Hilo with extended service to Lanai and Molokai,” the site says.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
