This article is more than 3 years old.

Known primarily for recording hits in Korean, BTS also releases singles and albums in Japanese, and they have now become so successful that the group can score an instant bestseller in nearly every country and many different languages. The band’s latest full-length Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ has already passed an important milestone that only a handful of beloved projects can hope to reach, and it managed to do so in just a matter of days.

BTS’s Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~, their latest Japanese album, sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan alone...in just the first two days it was available.

On the first day fans could pick up a copy of Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~, the title sold an incredible 447,869 units, and that’s just in Japan. That sum is already enough to make it one of the most successful titles of 2020 in the country, which boasts one of the largest music markets in the world.

The second day Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ was available, the title sold another 54,975 copies, bringing its two-day total to an incredible 502,844.

The daily sales sum continued to drop on the third day, when Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ sold just under 25,000 copies. That kind of decline isn’t unexpected, and it is still enough to keep BTS’s latest Japanese release at No. 1 on the country’s Oricon daily charts.

By the time the first full week has wrapped, Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ may wind up selling upwards of 600,000 copies, which is one of the more impressive first-week sums of all time. The group has been dominating the Japanese charts this year with their latest Korean full-length Map of the Soul: 7, but now fans in the country have shown their preference for the new release.

Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ features many of the same songs as Map of the Soul: 7 (as well as the band’s previous release Map of the Soul: Persona), re-recorded from Korean to Japanese. The latest effort does include several brand new cuts in Japanese, which have both been warmly welcomed by fans.
