Western New York Local Restaurant Week Begins September 26 - October 2nd

The historic redeveloped Hotel Lafayette will serve as backdrop for the kick off of Western York Local Restaurant Week Fall 2011.

/EINPresswire.com/Western New York Local Restaurant Week Fall 2011 kicks off September 26th in the ground floor of the historic Hotel Lafayette in Buffalo, NY, marking a significant milestone for the area's foodservice industry and the surging development of the region's downtown central core.

"If you take Statler City and the Hotel Lafayette-the two largest development projects currently in downtown- the common denominator among them is that they have foodservice and hospitality at the core of their go-to-market strategy," Peter Longo of the New York State Restaurant Association said.

"It's just not downtown either. Take a look at what's happening in Tonawanda, on Buffalo's waterfront and throughout the region. The foodservice industry here is a major player in getting projects off drawing board and shovels into the ground."

Over 200 local restaurants will participate in the Fall event that celebrates Buffalo's vibrant independent operator community. A recent study of major markets conducted by industry trade publication QSR.com found that Western New York maintains one of the highest percentages of independently-owned foodservice operations.

"We want to keep our unique identity and fight the influx of chains every step of the way," Longo said. "Twice a year we sponsor Local Restaurant Week because we think it is important to draw the distinction to the public as to who is an independent operator in this community. Our independents are fully invested. They are all in. And they are not sitting back waiting for better days. They are the agents of change."

Also speaking at the kickoff press conference will be Rocco Termini, President of Signature Development and Mike Andrezjewski Owner of Sea Bar and founder of WNY Local Restaurant Week.

A complete listing of participants can be found at localrestaurantweek.com. Each restaurant will offer week long dining deals for $21.11.

"Nationally, the economy continues to struggle with uncertainty," Longo said. "We hope to deliver a message that our local industry is strong and vibrant. We hope everyone can take time and dine out with friends and family to their favorite independent restaurants."
