LONDON, SELECT STATE/PROVINCE, UNITED KINGDOM, May 18, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- SMi Group’s 6th annual BioBanking conference, taking place on 20th and 21st June in London, provides a comprehensive overview of current legislative and scientific issues as well as ongoing commercial opportunities in biobanking relevant to both new and seasoned stakeholders.

In addition to hearing case studies on legislative considerations from MHRA, European Commission, Roche and AstraZeneca, this year’s event will feature three presentations from industry leaders at the heart of effective biobanking operations.

1. Dr Karina Bienfait, Head of Global Genomics Policy at MSD USA, will be presenting on biobanking and genomic research in clinical trials. With a focus on challenges and solutions in working with global health authorities, Dr Bienfait will discuss Merck’s clinical pharmacogenic and biobanking strategy as well as solutions to manage requirements from IRB/IECs.

2. Heli Salminen-Malkonen, Director of Auria Biobank, will discuss how Finland’s first biobank is the perfect model for next-generation biobanking. Focusing on the rewards of innovative biobanking, she will be speaking on how to maintain sustainability by public-private partnership and new co-operation biobank models.

3. Dr Brian Thomson, Director at Nottingham Health Science Biobank and Dr Phil Quinlan, Director at UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC), will co-present on the challenges in creating a UK biobanking network. The presentation will explore biobanking in the UK, particularly how the UKCRC fits into the European programme, and why there is a need for transformation and standardisation.
Other speakers include UK Biobank, Lundbeck, Public Health England, EBiSC, and other leading European biobanks. The full list of speakers and their topics can be viewed on the event website.
