NEW CEO JOINS INTERMOUNTAIN HEALTHCARE
Dr. Harrison has had a distinguished career in pediatric critical care and as a health system physician leader. He most recently held positions as chief of International Business Development for Cleveland Clinic, headquartered in Ohio, and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a multi-specialty hospital and part of Mubadala Healthcare’s network of world-class healthcare facilities. At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Harrison assembled a 3,500 member multi-national workforce and oversaw all aspects of clinical and business operations for the new medical campus, which cared for patients from 31 countries in its first 10 months of operation.
Dr. Harrison’s earlier roles included serving as chief medical operations officer for Cleveland Clinic, where he was responsible for a broad range of clinical operations worldwide, and as chairman of Pediatric Critical Care.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for me to work for a healthcare organization as distinguished as Intermountain. I look forward to continuing to advance the mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible – which is a purpose that is dear to my heart,” said Dr. Harrison. “Intermountain will continue to be a beacon for innovative medical care and keeping healthcare affordable.”
Dr. Harrison earned an undergraduate degree at Haverford College and a medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care through the University of Utah School of Medicine, working at Intermountain’s Primary Children’s Hospital. His wife, Mary Carole Harrison, MD, was a resident and served as the chief resident in the same program. Dr. Marc Harrison later received a master’s of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and completed additional study in management at Harvard Business School.
“The state of Utah and its medical community have helped shape my life,” said Dr. Harrison. “To come full circle, returning to the health system where I trained as a medical resident and now being a part of Intermountain, is an incredible moment for me and my family.”
Dr. Sorenson, while now retired as CEO, will continue with Intermountain as founding director of the Intermountain Healthcare Leadership Institute, which is expected to open in 2018. The Leadership Institute will offer leadership courses to senior-level healthcare physician leaders and administrators from around the world.
