Los Angeles Conservation Corps Announces the Grand Opening of the Wiseburn Walking Path.

Occasion marking activities will commence on Saturday, September 9 from 10:00AM-12:00PM.

LOS ANGELES, CA , USA, September 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ------ The Los Angeles Conservation Corps is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the Wiseburn Walking Path. This project executed in conjunction with LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas broke ground on December 2015. Multiple partners participated in this functional beautification project including: The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation, the California Natural Resources Agency and the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District.

Commencing at 10:00AM, Grand Opening activities will include family friendly activities such as arts, crafts, exercise classes, music and more.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas shared, “We are thrilled to open this long-awaited walking path in the Wiseburn community-- the first official green space in the neighborhood,” said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas. “This project is the culmination of years of work and advocacy by the community and collaboration at various phases of government to turn blight into beauty. We know that children and families will enjoy the path for years to come.”

During the course of this multi-year project the LA Conservation Corpsmembers built an impressive 3,200 linear foot walking path to provide Wiseburn residents with fitness and recreational opportunities. They installed community gathering nodes as well as eight pieces of outdoor exercise equipment. Corpsmembers also reduced the carbon blueprint by planting more than 75 trees and 3,000 drought-tolerant plants.
In addition to beautifying a previously non-descript section, the Corps can be proud to know that they’ve improved the quality of life for area residents. Wendy Butts, CEO of the LA Conservation Corps said, “We are so grateful for the opportunity to work on the Wiseburn Walking Path project. This invaluable experience and cross-jurisdictional partnership provided our Corpsmembers with training in construction and various types of landscaping skills. These learnings will provide another meaningful building block in putting our young people on the pathway to a future filled with hope and opportunity.”
