SADC ministers coordinate AU summit positions

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 23 - The 20th meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the SADC Defense and Security Policy Cooperation Body will allow the coordination of standings for the African Union (AU) Summit within a week in Mauritania, Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto said Friday.,

Speaking to the press, on the agenda of this 20th meeting of the organ chaired by Angola, he said that it was the ideal moment to get together ideas on the most important issues in terms of peace and security, to be discussed at the AU.

He informed that SADC will issue opinions from dossiers on the agenda of the African Union, namely the reform of the continental organization, approved at the last Summit in Kigali (Rwanda), where Angola is part of the group of five countries responsible for working in the process of reform.

SADC will also take the issues of the Free Trade Area approved in Kigali (Rwanda) to the continental summit, with particular attention to the countries that have already ratified the agreement.

With a deadline set for Saturday (22), SADC ministers will review the situation prevailing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe, Madagascar and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The Luanda meeting, opened by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, will decide on the day of the liberation of Southern Africa. Each country will carry out a report on the internal situation, security, among other matters.
