Teen Hosts Broadway Themed Fundraiser to Benefit Charitable Organizations

“Brynne’s Broadway By Request” on Sunday, July 29, benefits the Gateway Playhouse and school field trips to see Number the Stars at Shirat Hayam synagogue.

SOMERS POINT, NJ, 08244, July 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- When choosing a meaningful Bat Mitzvah project, 13-year-old Brynne Wiser decided to do what she loves, for the benefit of what she loves. On Sunday, July 29, the Egg Harbor Township teen will host “Brynne’s Broadway By Request,” a fundraiser to benefit the Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point and school field trips to see Number the Stars at Shirat Hayam Synagogue in Ventnor, New Jersey.

At “Brynne’s Broadway By Request,” audience members have the opportunity to cast votes for the Broadway songs they want to hear, and songs are chosen randomly to be performed by an ensemble of professional entertainers. The result is a truly unique show featuring a range of numbers, from musical theatre standards to modern favorites. The fundraiser will also include a silent auction featuring items such as show tickets and gift certificates for local businesses.

“I had participated in a holiday show to raise funds to restore the Gateway Playhouse, and I was thrilled when it reopened last August,” said Wiser, who took her first music class at the age of 15 months and performed in her first community theater production at the age of seven. “I thought it would be great to host another fundraiser to help with the ongoing costs of running the theater. The Shaken Not Stirred Players, who do an amazing job with their musicals at the Gateway, agreed to perform, so I know it’s going to be a great show.”

In addition to benefiting the Gateway Playhouse, “Brynne’s Broadway By Request” will give local students an opportunity to see Number the Stars at Shirat Hayam Synagogue in Ventnor, New Jersey. The musical adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel, which dramatizes the efforts of Christian Danes to rescue their Jewish neighbors during World War II, has been performed at the synagogue for the past twelve years. Each May, hundreds of fifth graders take field trips to Shirat Hayam to see the uplifting show, learning important lessons in friendship and courage while learning about the Holocaust.

Wiser has performed in Number the Stars for the past six years, and she wanted half of the proceeds from her fundraiser to help schools in the area fund field trips for their students. “Some of the students who come to see the show have never been in a synagogue, and they’ve never thought about what it might be like to worry about going to prison just because of their religion,” said Wiser. “Now, more than ever, I think it’s important to try to understand and empathize with people who have different beliefs and backgrounds. If my Bat Mitzvah project can help more fifth graders see the show and put themselves in the shoes of some of the characters, I’ll be really happy.”

“Brynne’s Broadway By Request” will be held at the Gateway Playhouse, located at 738 Bay Avenue in Somers Point, New Jersey on Sunday, July 29. The show begins at 2 pm, and tickets are $36 each for general admission seating. Sponsorship opportunities include: the Off-Broadway Sponsorship, for $118, which offers two tickets, VIP seating, and recognition at the event; the Broadway Sponsorship, for $218, which offers 4 tickets, VIP seating, and recognition at the event; and the Tony Sponsorship, for $418, which includes 6 tickets, VIP seating, a complimentary dessert selection, and recognition at the event.
