Shrewsbury – Ronald F. Tumeinski, of Shrewsbury, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at the age of 85.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret A. (Nadeau) Tumeinski; his daughter, Dr. Paula Hammerick of Mattapoisett; and four sons, Curtis and his wife Linda of Westborough, Neil and his wife Barbara of Uxbridge, Gregg and wife Amy of Ashland, and Dr. Marc and his wife Jo Massarelli of Worcester. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer), Brandin (Tracy), and Leland (Shaun Gallagher), all of Massachusetts, Courtney (fiancé Peter Lavin) of Rhode Island, Peter of Colorado, and Ethan and Jake of Massachusetts; two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Mason; one great-granddaughter due in October; and two nieces, Lynne Freitas (Tim Lyons) of Massachusetts, Anne Pegolo (Dean) of Connecticut, and John Freitas (Mary) of Connecticut. He was predeceased by his brother, Karl Farnworth (2005); nephew, Jeffrey Freitas(1995), and son-in-law, Dr. Walter Hammerick(2016).
Ron lived in Shrewsbury since 1987, most recently at Southgate, and prior to that, spent 23 years in Westborough where he enjoyed some of his happiest times on Harvey Lane.
He had earned a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1954. He earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University in 1970 done while helping to raise his family and working full time.
Ron began working at Lafayette College doing what he loved, teaching. He then worked for Bethlehem Steel on the first nuclear powered destroyer, the USS Bainbridge, and finally, worked for 32 years at the U.S. Army Natick Labs, retiring in 1994. It was a job he took seriously and personally knowing that soldiers or “the kids” as he called them, were depending on him for their safety.
As a husband, Ron was unwavering in his love and support of his wife, ever the true partner. As a father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, he passed on his strong sense of responsibility as well as his trademark sense of humor.
As a person, he took the difficult times in his early life and with resolute determination, hard work and sacrifice, achieved his goal creating a great life for his family. Ever proud of the lives his children, nieces, nephew, and grandchildren have built, he never allowed for credit to himself.
Ron was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the fortunes of the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. He also enjoyed most anything involving education and history.
The family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their excellent care and all those who sent prayers his way. He will be missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visiting hours Wednesay, Oct. 4, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Chiampa Funeral Home ~Sumner House~ 5 Church Rd., On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. His funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Route 30, Westborough.
