In what appears to be a second plot on his life, two gunmen, including one in woman’s attire, shot businessman Rajendra Prasad, after invading his Rose Hall, Berbice boutique around 15.45 hrs yesterday.
The intruders shot Prasad, called ‘Bobby,’ who is the owner of Bobby’s & Son Boutique, in the abdomen at close range.
Another bullet grazed the back of his head.
He was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was still undergoing surgery.
His attackers, who reportedly did not demand money, escaped on a CG motorcycle in the direction of the Rose Hall Town backlands.
The drama unfolded when a man in a green dress and wig and another wearing a motorcycle helmet, rushed into the boutique and headed straight to the cashier enclosure where Prasad normally sits.
The one with the helmet pointed a gun at the businessman and discharged three rounds, two of which hit Prasad. Prasad’s wife and son who were present saw him collapse to the ground.
Leaving money that was on the counter and other cash in the businessman’s hand untouched, the gunmen hopped on to their CG motorcycle and escaped to the Rose Hall backlands.
Another eyewitness told this publication that the men ordered the victims, “Don’t move” while they carried out the attack.
The eyewitness stressed that the gunmen made no attempt to rob anyone.
Prasad was rushed to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for emergency surgery.
Up to press time police were still in hot pursuit of the gunmen.
In March, police investigated what appeared to be a plot to execute Prasad.
The alleged plot unraveled after a man on a motorcycle accidentally rode into a car at Albion.
A detective who was driving in the area became suspicious after the motorcyclist, whom he recognized as an ex-convict, abandoned his bike and entered a car.
The detective trailed the car to Hampshire. On realizing that he was being followed, the suspect allegedly threw a firearm out of the vehicle before the policeman intercepted the vehicle.
While in custody, the suspect alleged that a Jamaican national had hired him to rob and kill Rajendra Prasad, aka ‘Bobby’.
The alleged ‘hit man’ was later slapped with possession of firearm and possession of ammunition charges.
The Jamaican was later arrested, questioned and released.
But Prasad stated that the Jamaican was his “close friend.”
Prasad also said that he did not believe the Jamaican would want to kill him.
He also denied owing money to the Jamaican.
