A St Andrew man has been fined $500,000 or 12 months in prison in a case of revenge pornography, which ended in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Donovan Coley was found guilty of malicious communication under the Cybercrime Act 2015 for a crime he repeatedly committed in August 2016.

Attorney-at-law Carolyn Reid with a fiat to prosecute, led evidence that on several dates, Coley sent four obscene photographs and more than 200 WhatsApp messages to the cell phone of the current boyfriend of the complainant.

Coley, with whom the complainant had an intimate relationship, had received via WhatsApp, the nude photos and videos of her.

The convict decided to release the photos and videos after the complainant sought to end their relationship.

The prosecution said when the complainant first attempted to walk away, Coley threatened to expose her photos and so she decided to reconsider.

Eventually, however, she decided to cut ties with the accused and it was then that she discovered that the nude photographs and videos she had sent to him had been sent to her current boyfriend.

She made a report to the police and was able to identify the photographs on the cell phone of her boyfriend as being those she had taken and sent only to Coley.

She also identified the cell phone number used to send the photographs and video to her current boyfriend as that belonging to the accused.

Coley was sentenced by Parish Judge Vaughn Smith.
