ADDISON, ILL., U.S., January 26, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ITsavvy Marketing Manager Dustin Perkins was one of eight individuals to receive a prestigious national VETTY award this year for his work with student veterans. Perkins serves as the volunteer Director of Marketing for Student Veterans of America-Illinois (SVA-IL).
Perkins works closely with veterans to ease the transition from active duty into civilian life. He has been working with this organization for a year and a half and, before that, was the president of The Veterans Club at his college for two years.
“As a veteran myself, it has been a distinct privilege to work with the veterans community as a volunteer. I know first-hand how difficult it can be transitioning back into life after service.” Perkins said. “An unexpected side benefit is that this has also given me a unique perspective for supporting the Public Sector team and client base at ITsavvy.”
ITsavvy President and CEO Mike Theriault said, “ITsavvy supports the men and women in our armed forces. All of us are incredibly proud of the contributions that Dustin makes to the student veterans community. The transition from service to civilian life can include numerous hurdles--we know many student veterans look up to Dustin as a role model for success.”
The award nomination reads in part: “Dustin has been actively involved in helping veterans make the transition from military life to civilian life through education and assisting with the program to better their lives. He helped broker relationships with over 50 colleges in Illinois to focus on civic engagement, leadership development, career progression and academic advisement.”
Academy of United States Veterans (AUSV) Veterans Awards (VETTYs) nominees must exemplify consistency, extraordinary quality of public service, exemplary advocacy efforts and demonstrate exceptional contribution or outstanding service to the veterans community.
ITsavvy’s Senior Director of Sales, Public Sector Brian Fields said, “It’s not often that I meet someone who is so overwhelmingly committed to a single cause. Dustin’s enthusiasm for the veteran community is infectious.”
The 3rd annual VETTYs ceremony was held on Jan. 20, 2018 at the District of Columbia’s Mayflower Hotel.
