STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, March 20, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On March 9th, the archery team from St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School travelled to SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica New York to participate in a competition which brought together 485 of the best archers across New York State. The Vikings not only took first place for the fourth year in a row, but also posted a record breaking score of 3343 out of 3600 and captured 8 of the top 10 spots. In addition, Senior Victoria Yuknek, won the overall best archer of 2018 with a score of 291 out of a possible 300.

“I commend these student athletes and their coaching staff for another outstanding season,” said Father Michael P. Reilly, Principal of St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School. “We look forward to their continued success at the upcoming National Competition in May.”

The tournament was organized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the sponsor of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Scoring for the event is comprised of shooting 15 arrows from 10 meters and then 15 arrows at 15 meters from a compound bow instinctively without a sight.

In addition to Victoria Yuknek taking First Place overall, other top finishes for Sea included Jonathan Pecora 2nd Place Boys, Michael DiSanto 3rd Place Boys, Daniel Pearson 4th Place Boys, Paul Fabozzi 5th Place Boys, Crystal Nerone 3rd Place Girls, Emily Petrocelli 4th Place Girls, and Ariana DeJesus 5th Place Girls. The team will be headed to the Nationals in May where they will be competing for academic scholarships to college.
