Gala raises $160K for heart and lung research

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, April 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On April 5, Intermountain Research and Medical Foundation’s 28th annual Legacy of Life Dinner and Gala raised a record-breaking amount, bringing in more than $160,000 for cardiovascular and pulmonary research. Attended by nearly 500 people at Salt Lake City’s Little America Hotel, the event honored four individuals who’ve had a major impact on the quality of healthcare, both locally and around the globe.

Retired Intermountain Healthcare cardiothoracic surgeon Donald B. Doty, MD, and his wife, Cheryl J. Doty, were honored with the 2018 Legacy of Life Award, which recognizes leaders for their contributions to the well-being of mankind. Dr. Doty is a pioneer in cardiac surgery. Cheryl is a long-time board member of the Foundation’s Holiday Quilt Show and Auction. A generous donation from the couple built the Doty Family Education Center at Intermountain Medical Center.

C. Gregory Elliott, MD, chair of the department of medicine at Intermountain Medical Center and a trailblazer in the field of pulmonary hypertension, was honored with the 2018 Scientific Achievement Award. Because of Dr. Elliott’s work, a progressively fatal disease became a survivable condition for many patients.

Business leader Robert J. Corcoran received the 2018 Gold Caduceus Award for his outstanding service as a community volunteer and board member at Intermountain Research and Medical Foundation.

Since 1970, community members have stepped up to help fund medical research at Intermountain that improve patients’ lives. “We’re grateful to have the support of so many generous donors, who help to maintain the quality of life we enjoy in our community,” said Matt Broadbent, Associate Chief Development Officer, Intermountain Research and Medical Foundation.
