Vice-president defends connivance with rural areas

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 20 - The vice president of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, defended today in Luanda the creation of smart cites, without prejudice to rural areas.,

The official defended this position during a speech in panel on "Smart Cities - Technology as a driving force for efficiency and quality in urban environments" at the ANGOTIC 2018 Forum.

In Angola, according to the Population and Housing Census of 2014, more than 60 percent of the population live in cities, which makes the management of these places a priority.

He stressed that the management of cities should be done without prejudice to the municipalities further away from the country's capital (Luanda) and provincial headquarters. This action, according to the vice-president, aims to reduce the migratory flow towards the big urban centers.

In recent years, Angola has experienced an exponential increase in its population, which the Government has responded with a program to increase the supply of housing, which includes the construction of new "centralities".

In the perspective of Bornito de Sousa, a city cannot be understood nor built as a mere set of buildings and streets. Today, for example, it is no longer understood that there could be an assault or robbery in an urbanization and there is no a single camera that records the movement of vehicles and individuals in a given period. From conception to how they work, from the universe of available options to how they are managed, cities compare to living organisms, perfectly functional, combining latest technological solutions to provide well-being and living quality.
