Honda Rearview Report: August 27 - September 14, 2018

"Two weekends ago, Honda clinched the IndyCar Manufacturers' Championship with all five Honda-powered teams making race-winning contributions, while claiming 34 of 48 podium positions and earning Honda-powered drivers 7 of the top 10 championship slots, including the #1 and #2 positions for Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi, heading into the season's final race.

Meanwhile, Acura continued its impressive season of IMSA racing last week at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. In the GTD class, the #86 NSX GT3, piloted by Katherine Legge and Alvaro Parente, posted the fastest GTD qualifying lap ever at Laguna Seca on the way to a class win. This drew the Acura-powered team within striking distance of the drivers' and manufacturers' championships in only its second season of competition; while in the Prototype class, Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya earned their sixth podium finish of the season for Acura Team Penske driving the Acura ARX-05 prototype.

Finally, in the production-based World Challenge Touring Car championships, Honda has also clinched championships in the TCR class with Ryan Eversley piloting a Civic Type R, and in TCA with Tom O'Gorman in his Civic Si. These production-based series use modified production cars – very lightly modified in the case of O'Gorman's Civic Si – and are a testament to the race-bred DNA that goes into everything we make.

We certainly race to win, but just as importantly, we value racing as a means to fuel our company's competitive spirit and to advance our engineering prowess on and off the race track.  A hearty congratulations to all of our drivers and teams and to our colleagues at Honda Performance Development and Acura Motorsports for all that they've accomplished this season. It really has been a remarkable year."

Sincerely,

Art St. Cyr President Honda Performance Development
