Chairman of the CIS Economic Council and Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk chaired the 101st meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow. The participants reviewed a wide range of trade and economic cooperation issues facing the Commonwealth member states.

In 2024, the Russian Federation chairs the Commonwealth of Independent States. “Our chairmanship focuses on deepening economic cooperation, primarily in food, technological and energy security, transport and logistics, environmental protection, innovation, digitalisation, and strengthening industrial cooperation,” Alexei Overchuk said. “We operate based on the principles of interconnectedness of the economies of the CIS member states, the importance of aligning decisions at the national and regional levels in order to ensure sustainable development of the Commonwealth amid the new geopolitical realities.”

Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that cooperation on the CIS platform will remain a key priority for the Russian Federation. “I believe it is important to continue coordinated work to build up economic and industrial capacity, and to form new ways of mutually beneficial cooperation,” Alexei Overchuk said. “We all understand very well that the ultimate goal of our efforts is to improve the quality of life and security for the people in our countries.”
